Product Overview
The MERM-1000 combines physical medication storage with an embedded electronic monitoring module to support medication adherence tracking across a variety of healthcare use cases.
Each medication access event is recorded by the device and automatically synchronized with a cloud-based platform, eliminating the need for manual data collection. This architecture supports centralized monitoring and data-driven program management.
The device is intended for tabletop use and supports modular medication containers of varying sizes. This flexibility allows adaptation to different dosage schedules, treatment protocols, and program requirements while maintaining a consistent electronic monitoring core.
Although the system is adaptable for multiple medication programs, it has been specifically optimized and field-proven for TB treatment adherence, where long treatment durations and strict dosing schedules demand dependable monitoring.
The MERM-1000 also functions as a generic medicine dispenser, combining secure physical medication storage with an embedded electronic monitoring module to support adherence tracking across a wide range of treatments. Each access event is automatically recorded and synchronized with a cloud-based platform, removing the need for manual data collection and enabling centralized monitoring and data-driven program management.
Key product characteristics include:
- Secure storage for a one-month medication supply
- Electronic recording of medication access events
- Automatic synchronization with cloud-based systems
- Modular and reusable electronic design
- Suitability for large-scale public health and chronic care deployments
Design and Operation
System Architecture
The MERM-1000 consists of two primary hardware components:
- An electronic monitoring module
- A medication container
Physical Integration
The electronic monitoring module slots securely into the medication container. When assembled, the indicator LEDs on the electronic module remain visible through the front face of the container. A USB interface on the electronic module is accessible by opening the container, enabling device configuration, servicing, or data access when required. The USB interface is used for charging, device configuration, and data transfer, particularly for the Basic version of the system.
Adherence Monitoring and Connectivity
The device records medication access events and automatically synchronizes adherence data with a cloud-based service, providing near real-time visibility into patient adherence patterns. Cellular connectivity is supported through a 2G SIM card. SIM installation and data pack activation are to be completed by the customer.
Medication adherence is recorded using a magnetic sensor that detects container opening events. Each opening event is logged by the device and used as an indicator of medication access for adherence monitoring.
Available System Variants
The MERM-1000 is available in two configurations:
- Basic version: Monthly data transfer via USB
- Real-time version: Automatic synchronization with cloud services using 2G connectivity
