Product Overview
Modern racks and cabinets contain multiple heat-generating and critical electronic subsystems. Failures such as fan stoppage, localized overheating, smoke events, or unauthorized door access can remain undetected until they result in downtime or equipment damage.
Rack Monitor Pro is an advanced rack monitoring controller designed to continuously monitor fan health, temperature conditions, smoke events, and door status within rack and cabinet systems. It collects real-time operational data and makes this information available locally at the rack and remotely through standard industrial communication interfaces.
The system supports preventive maintenance by identifying abnormal conditions early and providing clear fault indications to operators and centralized monitoring systems.
System-Level Working Concept
Rack Monitor Pro functions as an integrated monitoring and control layer inside the rack. Temperature sensors, fan sensing circuits, smoke detectors, and door switches feed real-time signals into the controller.
The controller processes this data continuously and compares operating values against configured limits. When abnormal conditions are detected, the system activates visual fault indicators and corresponding relay outputs.
Configuration and monitoring can be performed locally using the built-in display and keypad or remotely via supported communication interfaces. In multi-rack installations, multiple controllers can be connected to a centralized monitoring system for unified supervision.
Monitoring Capabilities
Fan Operation Monitoring
Rack Monitor Pro supports monitoring and control of up to six fans. It detects fan ON/OFF status and fault conditions across both AC and DC fan types:
- AC fan ON/OFF sensing using current transformers
- 24V / 48V DC fan ON/OFF and speed sensing
Individual fan faults are clearly indicated, helping prevent thermal issues caused by airflow failure.
Temperature Monitoring
The controller supports six temperature sensors (NTC 10K) to monitor thermal conditions across multiple rack zones. Temperature fault monitoring is available for:
- Inlet
- Outlet
- Zone 1
- Zone 2
This multi-point sensing approach allows early identification of localized overheating rather than relying on a single ambient measurement.
Smoke and Door Event Detection
Dedicated inputs are provided for smoke detectors and door limit switches. Smoke sensing enables early detection of fire-related hazards, while door status monitoring supports intrusion detection and access awareness.
The emphasis is on early fault visibility and rapid response rather than reactive troubleshooting.
Communication and Integration Architecture
Rack Monitor Pro supports integration into industrial and infrastructure monitoring environments using standard communication interfaces:
- RS485 MODBUS (optional)
- Ethernet port for remote monitoring and management
- Optional SNMP protocol over Ethernet for centralized monitoring of multiple racks
A software utility is provided for configuration and controller management. This architecture enables real-time data visibility, alarm handling, and centralized supervision across distributed rack installations.
Outputs and Alarm Handling
The controller provides multiple relay outputs to support system-level signaling and control:
- Six relay outputs for fan ON/OFF control
- Common fault relay output
- Door fault relay output
- Buzzer or hooter relay output for smoke alarm indication
These outputs allow direct integration with external alarm systems, control panels, or supervisory controllers.
Power and Installation Considerations
Rack Monitor Pro is available in two power supply variants:
- 12V DC model
- 230V AC model
The required supply voltage must be specified at the time of ordering. The unit is designed for installation within electrical racks or cabinets and integrates directly with connected fans, sensors, and alarm devices.
User Interaction and Local Diagnostics
The front panel includes a 3-digit 7-segment display and a keypad with Up, Down, Enter, and Menu keys. This interface allows operators to:
- View temperature and fan status
- Identify fault conditions
- Perform local configuration and diagnostics
LED indicators provide clear visual status for fan operation, inlet and outlet conditions, and temperature faults across monitored zones, enabling fast on-site troubleshooting.

The controller is designed for continuous operation in industrial environments. It features an aluminium enclosure and is rated for operation from 0°C to 55°C with relative humidity up to 85% RH, non-condensing.
